Lunumiris is a traditional Sri Lankan condiment made with chili and onions. This condiment is commonly prepared as a paste, but this variation is a relish with onions. It pairs great with rice, bread, and is sure to bring a bold flavor to the table!

Ingredients Used To Make Lunumiris

Here are some quick notes about the Lunumiris ingredients that you will need to make this recipe:

  • Red Chili Flakes: The chili flakes bring the heat 🔥. Adjust the amount based on your preference.
  • Diced Onions: The onions give the lunumiris texture. You could also omit this and add water to turn the relish into a paste.
  • Lime: The lime gives the lunumiris a tangy kick. Adjust for acidity.

Tips For Making Lunumiris

  • Use Fresh Onions: If available, use fresh onions for a better taste!
  • Grind Your IngredientsIf you have time, grinding your ingredients can help break them down and release some of their flavors. It'll also help you achieve a smoother consistency. A grinder or pestle and mortar can be used to grind the mixture.
  • Wear Hand Protection: If you're mixing the ingredients by hand, consider wearing a hand glove! This will help you guard your eyes and skin from the chili flakes. We've definitely learned this the hard way.

Troubleshooting Your Lunumiris Recipe

Why is my Lunumiris chunky?

If your Lunumiris has a texture that's too chunky, it may be because the ingredients weren't ground finely enough. Grinding the ingredients can help break them down and achieve a smoother consistency.

Why does my Lunumiris lack flavor?

If your Lunumiris lacks flavor, it may need additional seasoning. Adjust the amount of chili flakes, salt, and lime juice according to your preferences. You can also experiment with adding other ingredients like garlic or vinegar.

Storing Leftover Lunumiris and Meal Prep

To store leftover lunumiris, transfer it to an airtight container and refrigerate. Make sure the container is clean to avoid any contamination. Refrigerating the lunumiris should help it last for a few days.
